Stress Test (treadmill) Pulse drop?
My husband had a stress test and passes both EKL AND BP portion but the doctor was concerned when he noticed that his heart rate or pulse dropped. Doctor is referring to a Cardiologist. Hubbie is extremely nervous to visit with Doctors and now is sure he is dying
Can anyone help shed some light on what this could "possibly" indicate. I would rather know something than not know anything but my husband is the other way around, he would rather not know than to address something head on.
Anyone with personal experience or professional expertise who is will willing to comment would be greatly appreciated. I know that nothing substitues for actual physician intervention, I would just like my husband to have a little information to hopefully ease his worry.
I'm thinking that your husband was quite nervous while having the test and when he began "working out", as with most people he stopped worrying about his stress. So the treadmill acted like a diversion emotionally for your husband, as he did not find the treadmill threatning.
You could easily purchase a cheap heart rate monitor and perform the test at home in a non threatning environment. In normal circumstances after achieving a base line pulse, as activity increases it will increase then level off and as load is decreased the pulse will begin to slow.
A second supervised stress test will most likely be ordered...but that doesnt take emotional stress away from people with white coat syndrome.
